If people spend a lot of money, they usually require passion to the smallest detail and that is what seems to make the fascination of a Pagani. Thereby already a lot of courage, to offer cars at prices well over half a million €. Especially with the racing versions again the same amount is possible. Since the presentation of the Zonda C12 1999 still about 100 units have been created. Horacio Pagani (born 1955) is Argentine, where he studied after diploma at the technical school design and engineering. He acquires special awards and in his recent working live mostly independent and operating in Italy since 1983. It is important to mention his friendship with Juan Manuel Fangio, who makes him courage, the Zonda project at first is probably involved and establish ties to Daimler-Benz. Fangio died in 1995 and the initially planned compound name Pagani-Fangio mutated for the first car to "Zonda", the wind in the Andes. In a later version is added even an 'F' in memory of the brilliant racing driver. Horacio Pagani is both modern and old-fashioned. He draws inspiration from the Renaissance, apparently do not use a computer, but works simultaneously for more than 10 years with the trendiest body material, namely the carbon fiber. Created in his 35-people company develop that way the result of fine precision, partly only coated by a thin layer of clear lacquer. The only precedent in this technique of bodywork was McLaren. The carbon fibers are recently partly reinforced by titanium wire, which gives also visual special effects. In general the car will get always just the materials, which appear the boss most effective: decorating buttons made of wood, internal reinforcements from steel, control elements from light alloy. In any case, one finds, by design, nothing that would be purchased from any mass production, to this one is too much obsessed with detail. Note: A Lamborghini with twelve cylinders weigh about half a ton more. And perhaps more importantly, the car may also to handle for the average driver (with some rationality), but its filigree suggestibility takes it far a piece from the somewhat bull-like rudeness older Lambos. Little weight is no to be replaced just by anything except by even more less weight. Despite suitability for the average driver is technology at its best, you could also accuse it of F1 origin. Not only brakes and body, the suspension is due. Instead pushrods are here installed pullrods, which only indicate in a different direction of action. Thus, the suspension is not mercilessly hard, but can treat with almost infinite precision small bumps gently and coarser more strongly at least after a short spring travel. 11/03
